Collecting your prescription

You can usually collect your prescription from the pharmacy 3 to 5 working days after you have ordered it. Dawley Medical Practice aim to have your prescriptions signed within 48 working hours during opening hours.

You will need to choose a pharmacy to collect your prescription from. We call this nominating a pharmacy.

You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time:

  • on the app or website where you order repeat prescriptions
  • at your GP practice
  • at any pharmacy that accepts repeat prescriptions

Questions about your prescription

If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.

The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.

If you would like to speak to someone at the GP practice about your prescription:

  • Please call the practice on 01952 630500 option 2 for Prescritions
  • fill in our medication query form.
  • If you need to speak to one of our Clinical Pharmacists at Dawley Medical Practice, please call 01952 630500 option one for appointments.

Medication reviews

Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see a member of the clinical team at least once a year for a medication review. The appointment may be with a clinical pharmacist, nurse practitioner or practice nurse.

The practice runs a birthday recall system for chronic conditions so your review will be on or around the month of your birthday. Don't worry if your review falls during another month, this is just a general guide to the recall.

If you have been notified that you need a review, please contact reception to book an appointment. Not having a medication review may lead to unnecessary appointments and may delay the issue of your medication.

Medication monitoring

Certain medications require regular monitoring i.e blood tests, blood pressure. These include, but are not limited to: Warfarin, Methotrexate, Lithium, Azathioprine, Levothyroxine, Leflunomide.

Please make sure your monitoring requirements are up to date before ordering your repeat medication, not doing so may cause a delay to your prescriptions or a reduced amount may be given until your monitoring is up to date.

If you are unsure whether your medication requires monitoring, please contact the practice.
